Embarrassing but true: I’ve always found “If I Were a Boy” to be somewhat moving. What girl hasn’t, at times, wished men could approach relationships from a female mindset?

By splicing the song with Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’,” the creator of this mashup has made it catchy and, improbably, injected Beyonce’s original with another tinge of sadness. The Petty lyrics in the mix (“She’s a good girl… I’m a bad boy for breaking her heart”) seem to enter a dialogue with Beyonce’s, and we are eventually reminded that “you’re just a boy, and you don’t understand.”
